Crazy Rich Fashion: The Best Looks at the Crazy Rich Asians Hollywood Premiere

With the heavily anticipated release of Crazy Rich Asians just a few days away, Hollywood is buzzing with all things related to this upcoming summer blockbuster. Last night, the official premiere took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles and the stars of Crazy Rich Asians did NOT come to play! The all-Asian cast of the movie, as well as other Asian celebrities from around the world, showed up dripping in gorgeous one-of-a-kind designer duds that mirrored the grandeur portrayed in the movie. Many of the stars purposefully chose Asian designers to create their looks for the big night, and their inspiration can be felt through the delicate hints of the homeland woven into each of these beautiful outfits. These stars strutted onto the red carpet last night looking like Asian royalty, and all I have to say is…YAAASSS!!!!

Let’s take a look at some of the most fabulous looks from Tuesday night’s star-studded premiere:

Constance Wu (starring as Rachel Chu)

Listen, Jessica Huang is cute and all, but Rachel Chu is on a wholeee ‘nother level. Constance Wu, who plays the female protagonist in Crazy Rich Asians, looked absolutely STUNNING in a sparkling Ralph and Russo couture gown. I swear, ever since Constance got cast as Rachel, she’s been looking like a million bucks!

Henry Golding (starring as Nick Young)

The heartthrob of Crazy Rich Asians, played by Malaysian-British actor Henry Golding, displayed just the right amount of flashiness in his outfit to draw attention without doing too much. The ensemble consisted of a clean baby blue Tom Ford jacket, paired with black pants and a black bow tie. Love it!

Michelle Yeoh (starring as Eleanor Young)

When they say Asians don’t age, this is who they’re talking about. Michelle Yeoh, who plays Nick’s mom, just turned 56 this week but she was looking young and fabulous as ever in the tiered Armani Privé gown and high ponytail that she wore to the premiere.

Awkwafina (starring as Goh Peik Lin)

This funny girl looked seriously stunning on the carpet in a pink Reem Acra gown. But when given the opportunity, she still found a way to poke fun at her outfit choice. “Check it out, I used to shop at Claire’s at the Queens Center Mall, bro, but now I’ve got a Reem Acra dress and Giuseppe shoes,” she joked to Entertainment Tonight.

Carmen Soo (starring as Francesca Shaw)

Malaysian actress and model Carmen Soo played up her creative side with this exquisite dress choice. Standing out from the crowd in this unique design created by Malaysian designer Melinda Looi, Carmen successfully brought this artistic display of fashion to life on the red carpet.

Gemma Chan (starring as Astrid Leong)

The beautiful Gemma Chan, who plays Nick’s cousin, turned heads in a gorgeous sequined Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress. The shiny details of this dress, along with her choice of jewelry, fit in perfectly with the glamorous vibe of the night.

Nico Santos (starring as Oliver T’sien)

Nico Santos, who some may recognize for his comedic one-liner in the movie trailer, looked dapper at the premiere in a crisp blue suit. While the suit was already enough by itself, Nico wanted to add a more personal touch to it. On the lapel of his jacket, he attached a pin with the design of the Philippines flag on it to pay homage to his motherland.

Sonoya Mizuno (starring as Araminta Lee)

This beautiful gown, designed by Alexander McQueen, is like a true work of art. The dress starts out simple at the top, allowing the focus to be on Sonoya’s flawless makeup and hair, before making a dramatic finish on the bottom, complete with metallic hues and many layers of ruffles.

Harry Shum Jr. (starring as Charlie Wu)

The handsome Harry Shum Jr. always manages to make a suit look good, and last night at the premiere was no exception. Wearing an all-white suit paired with just a touch of color in his tie and shoes, Harry looked polished from head to toe. It was a classic but memorable ensemble.

Kris Aquino (starring as Princess Intan)

This is hands down one of my favorite looks of the night. Kris Aquino, who plays Princess Intan, showed up to the red carpet in a voluminous, off-the-shoulder, yellow Michael Leyva ballgown that had her resembling a real-life princess.

Fiona Xie (starring as Kitty Pong)

This tulle black dress makes quite the statement with its asymmetric lines and dramatic flare. A sophisticated and bold design, this is not a look that can be pulled off by just anyone. Fiona did her thing though!!

Constance Lau (starring as Celine Lim)

This dress worn by Constance Lau is simply breathtaking, and while it’s very hard to choose a favorite, this might just be it for me. Custom made by a Singaporean brand, Time Taken To Make A Dress, it was easily the most Asian-esque outfit of the night. Inspired by a traditional cheongsam, you can see the subtle Asian touches in every part of the dress, from the embroidery on the collar, to the beautiful long ombré tassles that decorate the front, down to the striking red tones that finish out the dress. So so gorgeous!

Victoria Loke (starring as Fiona Cheng)

Yellow has always been one of my favorite colors for elegant wear and Victoria Loke really makes this look work for her. This fairy-like cocktail dress, designed by Preen By Thornton Bregazzi, is charming, feminine, and perfect for the summertime.

Amy Cheng (starring as Jacqueline Ling)

Amy Cheng slays in this sexy strapless champagne gown and bold red lip. The supporting actress certainly embodied her on-screen character as a crazy rich Asian last night, with a look that oozed of opulence and lavishness.

Jon M. Chu (director of Crazy Rich Asians)

The man responsible for bringing Crazy Rich Asians to Hollywood showed up to the premiere in a bold eggplant purple suit. The color purple is said to convey power, and as the head honcho of this whole affair, his outfit choice could not have been more appropriate.

Kevin Kwan (author of Crazy Rich Asians)

The genius behind Crazy Rich Asians, Kevin Kwan, showed up looking like a rockstar last night. Wearing an embellished Etro blazer with tinted sunglasses, he was ready to soak in all the success of his masterpiece on this historic night.

Many other celebrities from the Asian community came to the premiere to show their support, and their outfits dazzled just as much as those of the cast members.

Here’s one more look at the whole Crazy Rich Asians crew in all their glory:

Wheww…..I STAN.

I’m honestly in awe of how beautiful everyone looked last night. And it’s safe to say, I’ve never seen anything like it. For the first time in my life, I’m witnessing mainstream hype around an entire cast of actors and actresses that look like me, and it’s a pretty incredible feeling. If the premiere is any indication of how glamorous this movie is going to be, I’m more excited now than ever to watch this movie.

Crazy Rich Asians comes out on August 15, and you definitely don’t want to miss it!!
